Our Story
The heart wants what it wants. From Paolo Rizzi's daring idea to Roman's tenacity.
Paolo Rizzi, with his powerful horse Brown, began working the rows of the Podgora in 1983, inspired by his travels in France. He fell for Pinot Noir and for "the bubbles", noticing what Calvario and Champagne had in common. He waited for his son Roman to grow up so they could start again together. In the meantime he replanted the vineyards entirely, and in 2006 they gave their first grapes. Combining Ribolla, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, he created the first Metodo Classico, aged in bottle for two to three years and ready in 2009.
Paolo is known as "the chiseller of the vines" for the meticulous care he gives every row. Together with Roman, he has become a point of reference for traditional growers. From these vines on Monte Calvario, where the evening microclimate is ideal for holding scent and aroma, Piè di Mont® is born. The late harvest heightens the quality of this singular wine still further.
